Iran: Water protest turns fiery in Khorramshahr

Videos shared on Iranian State Television on Sunday captured the aftermath of protests over water shortage in the Iranian city of Khorramshahr the night before, after clashes between protesters and police broke out. Police deployed tear gas to disperse protesters, who in turn hurled stones and other objects against police, and started fires close to the Holy Defence Museum and a local bridge... Еще, as footage shows. According to Iranian State Television, the peaceful protest took a violent turn due to the actions of some «opportunists». Several arrests were reputedly made in order to contain the unrest. While some posts over social media claimed that one protester was killed, there have been no official reports of casualties. The protests broke out due to a shortage in clean water that has affected the city and nearby Abadan during the hot Iranian summer.
