Iran: 'US wants to take advantage' of Ukrainian plane crash — Head of judiciary

Chief Justice of Judicial system of Iran Ebrahim Raisi slammed «the US and foreign countries' agents» for what he described as taking advantage of the unrest caused after the downing of Ukrainian flight 725. Raisi made the remarks in Tehran on Monday. «The agents of the US and foreign countries' agents want to take advantage of this issue… in order to mislead public opinion and ride on this wave... Еще,» said Raisi who added foreign powers were aiming to create insecurity in Iran after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) mistakenly downed the Ukrainian plane on January 8. «Our nation will not let them do it,» stressed Raisi. Raisi's remarks came after UK Ambassador to Iran Rob Macaire was briefly arrested after attending a vigil-turned-protest for the crash victims. US President Donald Trump has also been posting Tweets in Farsi addressing Iranian protesters who had taken to the streets in an angry reaction to Iran's downing of the plane. The Ukrainian airliner crashed minutes after take-off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, sparking a diplomatic spat as Western leaders blamed Iran for shooting down the plane, which Iran denied at first. On January 11, Iran's military admitted «unintentionally» shooting down the plane. According to Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Iranian air defence systems erroneously identified the passenger jet «as a cruise missile.» **RESTRICTIONS: NO Access Israel Media/Persian Language TV Stations Outside Iran/Strictly No Access BBC Persian/VOA Persian/Manoto-1 TV/Iran International**
