Iran: US 'maximum pressure' campaign has ended in 'maximum isolation' for Washington — Rouhani

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Washington's «maximum pressure» campaign against his country had ended in «maximum isolation» for the US, at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, after the US unilaterally declared UN sanctions on Iran were back in force. Rouhani stressed that the US will face a «decisive response» if Washington does «something in the field of action» to enforce the sanctions. The president also reiterated that Iran was prepared to come back in line with the conditions of the Iran nuclear deal if the remaining signatories «fully fulfil the commitments and principals» of the agreement. On Saturday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced in a statement the «return of virtually all previously terminated UN sanctions.» He declared that the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran is no longer in force. Despite Pompeo's announcement, the other members of the UN Security Council, as well as the vast majority of the international community, have stated that the sanctions have no legal basis, as they hold that US has no right to impose the so-called snapback sanctions due to its 2018 departure from the nuclear deal.
