The end of the US presence in western Asia «has begun» amid Iran's unfolding response to the killing of Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in Tehran on Tuesday. He made the comments at the 'Tehran Dialogue Forum; 23rd International Persian Gulf Conference.'
«America, by assassinating a senior military official, has opened the gates to a course... Еще of action which, sooner or later, will come to haunt it across the globe,» he said.
«Just to put it in one sentence, the termination of the vicious presence of the US in the region of western Asia has begun,» Zarif added.
The Iranian foreign minister also responded to the reported US decision to deny him the visa needed to attend a UN Security Council meeting in New York on Thursday.
“The foreign minister of the US in his call to the United Nations secretary-general announced that 'we have not had enough time to issue the visa, therefore, we will not issue the visa,'» Zarif said.
The UNSC is to discuss the upholding of the UN Charter at a meeting on Thursday that was planned before the recent spike in tensions between Iran and the US. «The special meeting of the UN Secretary Council to support the charter was an opportunity to talk about the US' crimes,» said Iran's top diplomat.
Zarif went on to say that the decision of the US to deny him the visa «demonstrates the bankruptcy of the US government and Trump regime.»
«In fact, a government that threatens others with state terrorism, economic terrorism and also threatens war crimes and threatens humanity, does not care about violating the provisions of the UN headquarters agreement,» he stated.
Under the headquarters agreement the US is required to permit access to the UN HQ in New York City for UN diplomats. However, the DC reportedly says it can deny visas under certain circumstances, linked to security and threats of 'terrorism.'
Soleimani and the deputy leader of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Mohammed Ali Ebrahimi, also known as Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, were killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad's airport on Friday.
