Students from Tehran universities gathered in front of the Swiss Embassy in Iran's capital, on Wednesday evening, to protest against racism and show support for George Floyd protests in the US.
Protesters held placards reading «The beginning of the end, downfall of America» and «Silence makes the oppressor more oppressive.» They also laid flowers and lit candles in memory of Floyd.
«My message to the American people is to persevere in the face of this oppression, that they understand their rights and know that being dark-skinned in all religions, especially Islam, is not a sign of low status and all human beings are equal,» said a protester.
Protests and demonstrations have taken place across the world, having begun in the US in reaction to Floyd's death.
Floyd, a Houston native, died in Minneapolis on May 25 after a police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes as he was recorded saying, «I can't breathe» and «Don't kill me.»
Four officers involved in the incident have since been fired. The officer who knelt on Floyd's neck was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
