Iran: Tehran residents wear masks on the streets as air pollution skyrockets

Health workers in Tehran gave away free masks due to a spike in air pollution levels on Sunday, which also caused the closing down of primary schools in the capital. Dozens of citizens and authorities expressed their concerns on camera and blamed the use of low-quality fuel. «The main issue, according to the studies which we have done, is cars that are the main impact on the air pollution, not... Еще only Tehran, but even cities like Isfahan, Karaj, Mashhad,» said Massoud Zandi, administrator of the National Centre for Climate Change and Air in Iran's Environmental Organisation. A resident, Nazanin Dousti, added, «We all need to have in mind the old cars on the streets [when it comes to this], and people should learn that using public transport might decrease the pollution.»
