Iran is «ready» for a full prisoner swap with the United States, without preconditions, according to government spokesperson Ali Rabiei, who appeared on state television from Tehran on Sunday.
The US is yet to respond to the response, pointing out that the US had «refused» previous requests from Iran.
Rabiei added that Iran remains hopeful that the US has «now more readiness to put an end to... Еще this situation in comparison to the past.»
The spokesman expressed concerns regarding the safety of Iranian prisoners as he said that many Iranians' lives in US prisons are «in danger,» and added that «we have information showing that Iranian citizens are not in a good condition,» and that «they do not take care of them properly.»
Rabiei hoped that, amid the outbreak of the coronavirus, the US government will «prefer people's lives to politics and will be ready to return to this path [negotiation path].»
The US reportedly holds several dozen Iranians in prison, whilst it is not known how many US citizens are held in Iran. Several of the US citizens imprisoned in Iran have been accused of spying charges.
In December 2019, the countries unexpectedly freed a prisoner each.
