A Qadr-F ballistic missile was displayed in downtown Tehran on Saturday, as part of events marking the anniversary of the 1979 US embassy takeover and hostage crisis incident, also known as the ‘National Day of the Fight against Global Arrogance’.
Thousands of people rallied in front of the former US embassy in Tehran, also known as the “Den of Espionage”, to mark the event.
This year, the... Еще rally was loaded with slogans and chants against US President Donald Trump, amid a climate of uncertainty regarding the status of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal. Demonstrators also took aim at Saudi Arabia King Salman and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, criticised apparent US hostility against Tehran before mocking the country.
“Today the Iranian nation is a record holder in the field of humiliating and frustrating the Americans,” he told the thousands gathered.
In October, Trump moved away from European allies, Russia and China by refusing to re-certify Iran’s compliance with the deal, reached during former President Barack Obama’s administration. Under the deal, some international sanctions on Iran were revoked in exchange for Tehran curbing nuclear activity.
