An especially adapted Iranian-government sanctioned, Sharia-compliant production of the musical Les Miserables has hit the stage at the Espinas Palace Hotel in Tehran.
Footage filmed on Monday shows a performance of the adaptation based on French author Victor Hugo's classic novel.
Director Hossein Parsaee took a range of steps to meet the requirements of the Iranian government's... Еще interpretation of Islamic law. There is no physical contact between the male and female performers throughout the piece, all female cast members either wear wigs or have their hair fully covered, and due to a taboo about women singing unaccompanied, there are no female solos.
Parsaee estimates that «over 110,000 people» have seen the musical since its debut in November and claimed that another «30,000 people are waiting in order to buy tickets.»
