Iran's President Hassan Rouhani held a joint meeting with members of parliament in Tehran on Monday to address the country’s economic issues amid nationwide protests. Relations between the government and parliament have been improving since the wave of nationwide anti-government protests, which are decrying the country’s economic policy and rise in prices. President Rouhani said that «no... Еще issue is more important than employment» adding that «social problems, drugs, family issues and divorce are related to unemployment.» On Sunday, anti-government protesters defied the authorities’ warnings of a tough crackdown by extending protests to a fourth day. The same day, Iran blocked access to Instagram and the popular messaging app Telegram used by activists to organise gatherings. While Rouhani has acknowledged the public’s anger over the Islamic Republic’s flagging economy, he has warned that the government will not hesitate to crack down on those it considered lawbreakers.
