Iran: Revolutionary Guard chief warns US sanctions will increase Iranian missiles

The chief commander of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called the US “the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world” during a conference in Tehran on Tuesday. Addressing ‘A World Free of Terror’ conference, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said of Donald Trump`s Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), “We will answer the threats of big and small powers... Еще, regional and beyond the region on time and seriously and of course surprisingly.” He accused the US of supporting the “usurper Israel regime” and the “betrayer al-Saud regime.” Jafari stressed Iran’s determination to increase defence and missile capability as long as the US would increase economic pressure and sanctions on Iran. The IRGC, known in Farsi as ‘Pasdaran’ is intended to protect Iran’s post-1979 Islamic Republic system. In early August, US president Donald Trump signed into law one of the most wide-ranging sanctions measures of the last five years, known as CAATSA, which enhances three separate sanctions programmes targeting Iran, Russia and North Korea.
