Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on neighbouring Iraq to remain vigilant in the face of American plots, during a meeting on Thursday with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Tehran.
Khamenei emphasized Iran’s support for the Iraqi government's efforts to develop relations with neighbouring and regional countries and said «however, you must be careful about the American... Еще deceptions and never trust them.»
«The Americans created IS themselves, and now that the terrorists have been defeated by the Iraqi government and people, they pretend to be supportive of this important development; they will undoubtedly not hesitate to harm Iraq again if they find the opportunity,» he underlined. Khamenei also voiced Iran’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to develop ties with regional states.
Baghdad is a solid ally of both Washington and Tehran. The United States has 5,000 troops in Iraq and equips air support, weapons and training to the Iraqi army. Iran trains and funds Iraqi Shi‘a paramilitary groups known as Popular Mobilisation, which fight alongside government troops.
