Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei said Iran ‘will slap the US once again’ by defeating US sanctions, during a speech at Tehran's Azadi Stadium on Thursday. «Economic sanctions are more fragile than our national economy. Our national economy is able to defeat sanctions and thanks to God we will defeat them. Defeating sanctions means defeating the United States. The Iranian nation will... Еще slap the US once again by defeating sanctions,» Khamenei said while speaking at a gathering of Iran's Basij volunteer forces and senior military officials in the capital's Azadi Stadium. On Wednesday, the International Court of Justice ordered the US to lift sanctions on «medicines and medical devices, food and agricultural commodities» as well as aviation plans imposed on Iran. The ICJ based its ruling on grounds of Iran's request of sanction relief based on 1955 Treaty of Amity struck between disputing sides before the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The US government responded by announcing that it would be withdrawing from the Treaty of Amity as well as the optional protocol of the 1961 Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations which gives the ICJ jurisdiction over disputes arising from the convention.
