Iran: Govt to introduce 'strict' new coronavirus measures as death toll tops 2,000

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced that his government plans to bring in «strict» new coronavirus prevention measures, including a ban on Iranian New Year travel and traditional gatherings, during a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday. «These are tough decisions that are necessary to protect lives. All parks will be closed, and Sizdah Bedar (Persian holiday) will not be like previous... Еще years, but we have no choice but to do so, because the lives of Iranians are important to us,» said Rouhani. «We know that this plan is strict and it will create difficulties and restrictions for travel and prompt people who have already travelled to return home faster,» he further added. According to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University, 2,077 people have died of coronavirus in Iran, with over 27,000 confirmed cases.
