Iranian State TV released footage of 1,000 Bitcoin-mining machines in two abandoned factories after they were seized in the central province of Yazd on Thursday.
According to the reports, the machines were using industrially subsidised power to mine the cryptocurrency.
The Bitcoin-mining machines, which are banned in Iran, have been blamed for a seven percent spike in the country’s electricity... Еще consumption rate during the month of June.
The electricity required to mine each Bitcoin is roughly equivalent to the amount needed to power 24 households.
The Iranian Central Bank does not recognise digital currencies as a payment method in Iran and has warned it could be used in money-laundering operations.
