Indonesia: Mass evacuation underway, volcano eruption ‘imminent’

Indonesia’s disaster agency ordered people to “immediately evacuate” from a 7.5 kilometre (4.7 mile) exclusion zone around the Mount Agung volcano on Sunday, fearing an “imminent” eruption. Footage shows residents packing their bags and fleeing on motorbikes and army transport. Nengah Sumidia, who lives close to the volcano, said that village leaders were leading the evacuation effort. More... Еще than 140,000 people were displaced from their homes earlier in the year. 25,000 are thought to be living in temporary shelters and that figure is expected to grow following this announcement. The decision to evacuate residents came after the second major emission from the volcano on Bali in the space of a week.
