Indonesia: Locals condemn deadly protests against election result in Jakarta

Locals in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta on Thursday expressed their discontent with the deadly protests that started after Joko Widodo was declared the winner of April's presidential election by the country's election commission. Student and business woman Dina lamented the decline of her online business, as the government shut down WhatsApp and the overall Internet connection became... Еще slower. Worker Adi said that people should choose legal ways to protest, accusing rioters of «anarchist actions.» Around 600 police officers from South Sumatera Division were called in to secure the safety of the capital, as police officer Antoni informed. The clashes started on Tuesday afternoon when supporters of unsuccessful candidate Prabowo Subianto tried to enter the election supervisory agency's offices. On Wednesday police fired teargas to keep the crowds under control, after riots broke out in Jakarta’s streets causing at least six casualties and around 200 injuries. Rioters threw rocks and Molotov cocktails towards security forces, who responded with rubber bullets and water cannons, according to local media.
