Hundreds of farmers denounced the decision of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to invite his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro as the chief guest to India’s annual Republic Day parade, in New Delhi on Saturday.
Saturday's protest was organised by All India Sugarcane Farmers' Federation (AISFF) and joined by members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), environmental... Еще activists and students. The demonstrators were filmed outside the Jantar Mantar observatory holding banners with slogans «Fascist Bolsonaro go back» and chanting «Bolsonaro go back home.»
“In the whole world from Trump to Bolsonaro and from Israel to wherever there is oppression, Narendra Modi is standing with them. And we condemn this,” said All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) representative Mariam.
Among the reasons for protesting are the farmers’ objection to Brazil's formal dispute action within the World Trade Organization (WTO) over India’s sugar subsidy regime. Brazil, a major sugarcane producer, has been against Indian government's existing scheme to support sugarcane farmers.
Bolsonaro arrived to New Dehli on Friday for a four-day state visit and will be the chief guest at India’s annual Republic Day parade.
