Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was filmed arriving at the town of Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab state on Saturday, for an inauguration of a historic corridor between India and Pakistan, which grants Indian pilgrims free-visa access to the tomb of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak.
The Kartarpur corridor is a 4,7-kilometre (2,9-mile) long passage that connects the Sikh temples of Dera Baba Nanak and... Еще Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpura and leads to one of the holiest places for the Sikh community.
However, tensions between India and Pakistan have made the shrine hard to access in recent years. The opening came just days before the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak.
Over 700 pilgrims were estimated to have passed through the corridor on Saturday, with more to follow in the coming days.
