India: Left-wing parties protest decision to strip Kashmir of special status

The Communist party of India (CPI) joined other left parties to demonstrate against the Indian Government's decision to remove the special status granted to the region of Jammu Kashmir in New Delhi on Wednesday. «Our minister is saying that the rest of India is celebrating, what about the people of Jammu Kashmir? For us the land of Jammu Kashmir and the people of Jammu Kashmir both are an... Еще integral part of India,» the General Secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women, an affiliate of the CPI, said at the protest. On August 5th the Indian government revoked Article 370 of India's constitution which guaranteed substantial autonomy for the territories. The article banned Indians from outside Jammu Kashmir from taking up local government jobs, buying land and permanently settling there.
