Streets, markets and highways of New Delhi were seen crowded on Friday, as the number of coronavirus cases in India surpassed one million with a record 34,956 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.
«Everything was opened, so the cases are also increasing. People are suffering a lot (as they need) to travel and do their daily routine,» taxi driver Vipin Jain said.
According to local resident, Sunil Gupta, «the government should do more and take adequate actions to reduce the cases. They should do more than what they are doing now. It's monsoon season, during rains there are high possibilities the cases can go up again.»
Despite the surge in cases, India reportedly resumed its international flights between the US, France, and Germany after signing individual bilateral agreements with countries.
As of Friday, India has reported 1,003,832 coronavirus cases and 25,602 deaths with the virus, as data compiled by Johns Hopkins University showed, taking the third place in the amount cases around the world after the United States and Brazil.
