India: BJP leader surrenders to police after killing nine children while drink driving

After surrendering to police, Manoj Baitha was shifted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital for the treatment of injuries he sustained in Saturday's accident. Baitha was allegedly driving drunk when his SUV plunged into a crowd of school children in Muzaffarpur. In addition to the nine killed, some 20 children were also wounded. India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suspended Baitha on Monday, after initially denying he belonged to the party. Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party leaders and Congress president Rahul Gandhi questioned the ruling NDA government in the state of Bihar over the incident. RJD leaders also took on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP leadership in Bihar state over the delay in arresting Baitha.
