Thousands of protesters joined a demonstration in central Hong Kong on Friday, organised by some of the mothers of young people who were hurt in a protest violently cleared by riot police on Thursday.
«It started with how our chief executive decided to claim herself as the mother of Hong Kong people. And what she did which is sending out riot police against peaceful protesters was an act of... Еще disciplining unruly children and telling them what's best for them. So we believe that's not what mothers are supposed to do. So as mothers we want to stand out and come and speak our voices», said Cee Ling, one of organisers. She added that they were overwhelmed by the turnout.
Activists in Hong Kong called for a large demonstration on Sunday as the protest against the extradition bill amendments is growing. Demonstrators oppose the government's proposed changes which would allow suspects to be sent to mainland China to face trial.
