Members of the Demosisto pro-democracy party Joshua Wong and Agnes Chow spoke to the press in Hong Kong on Friday, as they were due to appear before the judge at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts.
Wong, the Demosisto secretary-general, said that they «mourned» the death of Alex Chow Tsz-lok, a 22-year-old student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, who died earlier in the day... Еще after suffering a fall from a multi-storey parking lot as he was allegedly fleeing tear gas dispersed by the police during a weekend protest. Wong called on Hongkongers «to wear black t-shirts» to show «our solidarity and unity» and urged the government to «set up an independent investigation» into the incident.
Wong noted that it was «insane and unreasonable» that the government «allows the police [to] attempt to murder the Hong Kong people,» noting that «reform [of] the police force is a must.»
«No matter how they prosecute activists, we will continue our fight in such uphill battle,» said Wong.
Chow described their arrest on August 30 as «a political decision to create white terror.» She went on to call on the Hong Kong government to stop «suppressing the movement and to listen to the five demands and to respect the public opinion of [the] Hong Kong people.»
Wong and Chow were arrested on August 30 and charged with inciting and participating in an unauthorised rally outside the police headquarters on June 21.
