Pro-Beijing politicians installed Starry Lee Wai-king as the chairwoman of the house committee of Hong Kong's Legislative Council expelling several opposition legislators on Monday.
The decision was announced after scuffles took place between members of the Democratic Party opposing the appointment and pro-Beijing deputies backed by their security guards.
«Reality in Hong Kong today is that... Еще whenever Beijing, whenever Carrie Lam and the establishment don't like something they would do whatever it takes. Including breaking the system that we have the rules that we have. The same goes to one country two systems, the same goes to basic law and the rules of procedure,» said Hong Kong Civic Party member Dennis Kwok
The house committee's role is to look into proposed laws before a second reading in the legislative council. Until Monday the committee had been without a chairperson for nearly six months.
