The Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo) passed a bill this Thursday that introduces new punishments for insulting the Chinese national anthem.
Punishments for insulting the anthem, known as «The March of the Volunteers» will reportedly include up to three years of prison time and additional fines.
Many vocal dissenters were present during the council's session, shouting slogans and holding signs in defiance of the bill.
The bill's detractors label it as an encroachment by mainland China, which was fought against last year in months of riots and protests.
