Hong Kong: Dozens hold pro-democracy rally inside shopping centre

Dozens of protesters rallied inside a shopping mall in Mong Kok District, Hong Kong, on Sunday, soon after China announced that its top lawmaking body will meet for a three-day session at the end of June and suggesting it could enact a national security law for the semi-autonomous city. Protesters were seen holding banners and chanting the unofficial anthem of the movement, «Glory to Hong Hong», amid a heavy presence of police inside the and outside the building. Under the new law, Beijing would open a national security office in Hong Kong in charge of criminal cases related to national security, a move that according to many would further erode the city's sovereignty. Another mass rally took place on June 16 to mark the anniversary of last year's protest against the now-withdrawn extradition bill, which was followed by months of anti-government protests.
