Guatemala: Vendors tested at capital city market after COVID-19 cases emerge

Health workers conducted coronavirus tests on vendors and buyers at La Terminal market in Guatemala City on Thursday, after several people tested positive over the past days. The new cases were linked to the market, according to reports. Health workers were filmed as they were accompanied by police officers, to swab over 150 merchants at the city's largest market. One of the vendors who was... Еще tested, Maria Pu Castro, said that she volunteered to be tested in order to be able to continue selling, despite sales dropping due to the outbreak. «But thank God we won in the name of food, there is freedom to sell and that is why I wanted to test myself to continue selling more,» Castro said. Walter Barillas, a butcher, said he also wanted to have tests to remove the «concern» that he had been infected by others. «With this test I no longer feel sorry, and the sensation of the swab is not uncomfortable just a little tickling,» Barillas added. According to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University, Guatemala has recorded over 2,500 cases of coronavirus. A total of 48 people have died with the virus at the time of writing.
