Greece: Tear gas and water cannons used at Greece-Turkey border

Clashes erupted between border forces and migrants in Kastanies on Wednesday. Tear gas and water cannons were used as the migrants try to cross into the European Union. Migrants could be seen beyond a fence, with Greek military patrolling the border zone. At least one helicopter was deployed, in addition to flash and tear gas, used from both sides. Shots could be heard, along with ambulances, but... Еще it was not clear if the ammunition was live. The Turkish authorities have accused the Greece of being responsible for the death of one migrant, and the injuring of five. The Greek government has strongly denied the allegations. President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has announced a €700 million aid package to help Greece deal with the large-scale influx of migrants after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan effectively opened the borders. President Erdogan accused the EU of failing to keep its financial promises to Turkey in return for keeping Turkey's borders with the EU closed to refugees. The statement came after at least 33 Turkish soldiers were killed in an airstrike in Syria's Idlib province last week.
