Greece: Santorini invites tourists to 'COVID-free' island as country reopens tourism

Local business owners from the iconic Santorini island invited potential tourists, on Tuesday, to come and visit the island, assuring them that there has not been a single reported case of coronavirus since the start of the outbreak and that the island is completely safe. Antonis Sigalas, Mayor of Santorini, said, «From the very beautiful Santorini, I invite the whole world to visit Greece because of it's hospitable and hygienically safe. Santorini island remained without a single case [of coronavirus] during the pandemic and from now on it will be open all the year to give the opportunity to all visitors to enjoy the island and its people. Magical Santorini is waiting for you.» On June 13, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the iconic island where he announced the reopening of Greek tourism and asked travellers to visit the country. According to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University, Greece has over 3,100 cases of coronavirus. At least 185 people have died with the virus.
