Antifa groups took to the streets of Athens on Sunday, to counter a demonstration held by nationalist and ultra-Orthodox organisations to protest new legislation on gender identity. Ultra-Orthodox Christians along with nationalist groups called for the rally to oppose legislation that recognises the right of a person to change their gender identity on official documents without the need for... Еще sterilisation. The law was voted for by the Greek parliament earlier this month. Antifa groups and transgender rights activists gathered on Syntagma Square to protest those who came out to oppose the new law. Tensions simmered when hooded protesters with batons and helmets hurled objects at police officers. According to media reports, three cadets of the Hellenic Military Academy were attacked by unknown assailants on Sunday afternoon near Monastiraki Square in the centre of Athens. The three officers were transferred to a military hospital but no serious injuries are reported. It is still unknown if the attack has any relation with the tensions reported near Syntagma Square between police officers and antifa protesters.
