Hundreds of refugees took to the streets of Athens, Wednesday, protesting for the right to be reunited with their families in Germany and in solidarity with a group of 14 hunger strikers.
The protesters held banners and chanted slogans such as “Open the gates” and “Reunite our families,» demanding individual appointments with the German Embassy.
“I want to follow my family,” said Mohamed Labrasi... Еще, a refugee stranded in Athens. He added: “half family here and half family in Germany, that's not good for us.”
According to a protester who participated in solidarity with the refugees, «they make this demonstration and they demanded to make an appointment with the German embassy, the German embassy accepted the appointment and said: No women are allowed.»
He added, «this is totally ridiculous and sexist from the German side, it's amazing that the so-called civilised western society doesn't allow women inside the embassy in the official appointment.»
A total of 14 refugees have been on hunger strike, camped outside the Greek Parliament in Syntagma Square, demanding that the Greek government and EU open the borders and allow them to reunite with their loved ones.
