Greece: «Lesbos is an island prison» — Striking residents warn of refugees' conditions

Dozens of residents from the Greek island of Lesbos partook in a strike on Monday, to protest against the government's policy regarding the thousands of refugees who are stranded on the island during dangerous weather conditions, Monday. Authorities called on all residents to go on strike after releasing a statement that describes Lesbos as an «island prison». The island's residents decried the... The mayor of Lesbos, Spyros Galinos, said that everyone on the island was to «fight for those people too, who are today in danger of living under these weather conditions» adding that «no minister has the right, no prime minister or official from the European Union to say that winter caught them by surprise.» Earlier on Monday morning, the police were called to break a riot at the Moria refugee camp, where tensions are high as the area has long surpassed its capacity.
