Kurdish protesters calling for the release of the former Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) president clashed with police outside the Turkish Embassy in Athens on Wednesday. Police used tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd demanding the release of Abdullah Ocalan who has been held in isolation in Turkey for 18 years. Some demonstrators sat on the ground, holding portraits of the jailed PKK... Еще president, chanting slogans. Ocalan was seized in Kenya in 1999 and taken back to Turkey where he was tried and sentenced to death for treason and sedition. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment when Turkey abolished the death penalty.
