Greek health care workers marched through central Athens on Tuesday to call for additional funding for the public health system and full-time jobs for temporary workers. The demonstration took place alongside a nationwide strike by doctors and other public hospital workers.
Protesters chanted slogans and carried banners with slogans such as “support health workers.»
«We need more hospital staff and doctors because they aren't enough. What they are saying is a lie. There are no full-time jobs and the national health system is collapsing,» said one protester.
Union members marched to the Ministry of Health, where they reportedly met with a ministry delegation. Protesters are calling for the government to permanently hire workers who were recruited on a temporary basis to help deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
