Hundreds of firefighters and a fleet of water bombers entered their third day of battling wildfires on the island of Evia, also known as Euboea, north of Athens on Thursday.
Footage shows multiple Erickson S-64 Air-Crane helicopters and water bomber airplanes dropping water on fires as the forest is engulfed in smoke.
Athens which is 110 km (70 miles) away from Evia has been covered with smoke... Еще since Tuesday with some residents reporting ash falling from the sky. The government declared a state of emergency on Wednesday.
Greece's civil protection authority warned those in the areas affected by the smoke, particularly the elderly and very young, to remain indoors and set air-conditioning units to recycle internal air.
In 2018, over 100 people died when a fast-moving forest fire broke out in a seaside area northeast of Athens.
