Left-wing and anarchist organisations marched through central Athens to protest in solidarity with hunger strikers in Turkey on Tuesday.
The protesters marched past the Greek Parliament buildings, EU Commission offices and the Embassy of Turkey in Athens, which was guarded by riot police.
Member of Communist Party of Greece Spyros Papakonstantinou said, «We participated in today's solidarity protest with the Turkish and Kurdish people against the fascist regime of Erdogan and the fascist Turkish state.»
The protesters marched in solidarity with hunger strikers, including lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytac Unsal, and members of the folk group Grup Yorum.
The Turkish government accuses Grup Yorum, formed in 1985, of links to the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, a militant group that is classified as a terrorist group by Turkey, the US and the EU.
Two of the groups members including bass guitarist and Ibrahim Gokcek group's singer Helin Bolek have died while on hunger strike, which they started in protest of the government's crackdown on the group.
