Greece: Construction of new Lesbos camp continues, 5,000 beds ready

Authorities pushed on with the urgent construction of a temporary camp for asylum seekers on the Greek island of Lesbos, on Tuesday, days after a series of fires destroyed most of the overcrowded Moria camp, which left some 11,000 migrants without proper shelter. According to reports, 5,000 beds in tents have already been made available in the new camp, in the Kara Tepe area of the island, though only 1,000 asylum seekers have moved in so far. Construction vehicles can be seen roaming the camp where hundreds of tents and other infrastructure including toilets have been set up.
