Greece: A ‘more secure Greece is in America’s interests’ — US Ambassador as forces disembark

US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt spoke of the mutual interests between the United States and Greece in Alexandroupoulis on Wednesday, speaking alongside Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panayotopoulos as the American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier MV Endurance arrived in the port to unload military vehicles and troops ahead of the NATO Atlantic Resolve 2020 military exercises. «A stronger and more secure Greece is an America's interest and Secretary [of Dfnse Mark] Esper discussed with Minister Panayotopoulos just this week. Our work together deepens a very important bilateral relationship and strengthens the NATO alliance, promoting prosperity and security in this strategic region for all of our citizens,» the US Ambassador said. For his part, Panayotopoulos assured listeners that Greece is a reliable ally to the United States, Europe, and NATO, saying ''In turbulent times such as we are living in right now, and amidst a great variety of security challenges and regional tensions, through this project, Greece emerges as the reliable partner an ally in the region for the United States, for Europe, for NATO.'' The ship reportedly transported 3,000 US military service members, with the US Navy's Military Sealift Command stating that the ship was contracted to bring the «US Army's 101st Combat Aviation Brigade to the European theater» on their Twitter page.
