Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan was laid to rest at a state funeral in Ghana's capital of Accra on Thursday. Current UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres was amongst the many in attendance, who gathered to pay their respects to the deceased African diplomat. Annan held several posts within the UN before becoming the High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, a role he stayed... Еще in for seven years. In 1997, he was appointed Secretary-General, where he served two terms, and became the first black African secretary-general of the UN, serving in the role until 2006. Thanks to his work in this position, the Noble Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Annan and the UN in 2001. Anna died on August 18 in Switzerland following a brief illness, at the age of 80.
