Government spokesman Steffen Seibert reported about the current situation during the coronavirus pandemic, saying the number of cases is still too high to relax initial restrictions.
«Whether our measures have an effect on this infection curve and if so, how strong this effect is, we will not be able to see until the end of this week, or the beginning of next week. The number of cases is doubling every five days,» he said from Berlin on Monday.
He stressed that it was impossible to stop the spread of the virus but that the German government and healthcare system would do everything possible to slow the spread of the disease.
«To achieve this goal we will make all possible decisions especially regarding how long the restrictions must be in place,» Seibert explained.
He also added that the future after the pandemic depends on «our patience and community spirit.»
As of Monday, Germany has over 63,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and approximately 560 people have died since the beginning of the outbreak.
