Germany: 'We have space!' — Thousands call for more migrants to be taken in at Berlin demo

Thousands of people took to the streets in Berlin on Sunday to demand the immediate evacuation of migrants left homeless after the Moria camp fires. The demo took place under the slogan «Enough! We have space,» with organisers calling on the German government to accept all migrants who had been living in the overcrowded Moria camp. Demonstrators gathered in the Schoneberg neighbourhood before marching up to the Victory Column in the city centre, holding banners and signs demanding that camps be shut down and migrants be taken in. Thousands of migrants were left homeless after the fire destroyed what was the biggest camp in Europe. A new camp with enough space to host 3,000 people was built near the previous camp over the weekend with the help of Greek military. The German government pledged earlier in the week to accept 1,553 refugees from five Greek islands, all of them families with children, on top of about 150 unaccompanied minors from the island of Lesbos. Protesters consider this number to be too small.
