The lawyer of Russian DJ Denis Kaznacheev confirmed on Tuesday in Berlin that the detained artist's US arrest warrant refers to «money laundering in the dark web.»
Kaznacheev's lawyer Jonathan Burmeister said the charges stem from an «American warrant from Maryland,» and emphasised that the artist «knows that he has never been in the dark web and did nothing there.»
Burmeister said his clients lack of German skills was an issue in prison, stating «It is not easy when you don't speak German and the prison is an awfully complicated place where there are a thousand rules.»
«You have to file requests for everything in German in written form. Apparently he hasn't seen a social worker yet,» he explained, adding that Kaznacheev «couldn't make phone calls himself yet.»
The Berlin Police has since released the following public statement about the Kaznacheev case: «In consultation with the Berlin public prosecutor, I can inform you that Mr K. was arrested in Berlin. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the US Department of Justice directly.»
The US Department of Justice was contacted but has declined to comment.
The Russian embassy in Berlin has also reportedly said that at this point Kaznacheev has not filed any requests for consular legal assistance.
The electronic artist, who records under the name Guttersnipe, was arrested last week and faces extradition to the US.
