British-Indian writer Salman Rushdie spoke on Thursday about why people «still like» US President Donald Trump, during a talk with other intellectuals at the second edition of the Forum Bellevue in Berlin. Rushdie spoke of a section of «white America» that was unable to «stand the fact» that a black president had been in power for eight years. He went on to say that they were «very energized to... Еще bring back, if you like, white people to power.» The writer went on to say that there was a section of middle America that wanted «someone to smash things up, and Trump presented himself as this person, and this is why people still like him, because he is doing exactly what he said he would do.» The author pointed out that Trump does something «disgraceful» every day and there are «no consequences for him». Rushdie’s comments as Trump is receiving backlash for retweeting posts from the British far-right group Britain First. The main topic of the discussion at the forum was «The freedom of thinking in troubled times», led by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, writer and journalist Eva Menasse, writer Daniel Kehlmann, and Salman Rushdie.
