Germany: Toennies slaughterhouse resumes operations after closure over COVID outbreak

The Guetersloh meat plant operated by the Toennies Group has resumed some of its operations on Thursday after being closed over an outbreak where more than a thousand employees tested positive for COVID-19 resulting in a local lockdown. Several animal and meat cargo lorries can be seen entering the meatpacking and abattoir complex in the city of North Rhine-Westphalia. The plant has partly reopened its facilities bringing back around 600 of their 6,140 employees. Toennies facilities had been closed since the outbreak was discovered on June 17, resulting in 600 thousand people in the city of Guetersloh being put under lockdown until July 8.
