Germany: Thousands protest increased police surveillance law in Hannover

More than 120 movements and activist groups, including antifa and football supporters, took to the streets of Hannover on Saturday to protest new law draft asking for increased police power in Lower Saxony. United under the alliance of 'noNPOG' (translated as 'No to the new Lower Saxony Police Law'), demonstrators marched along the streets carrying banners and chanting. The draft would grant... Еще police greater surveillance powers on individuals and public places. The new law was proposed by the local governing coalition between the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and welcomed by Trade Union of the Police (GdP). The law, which should come into force later this year, has received heavy criticism from German civil society.
