Germany: Thousands march in support of refugees and sea rescuers in Berlin

Thousands of people marched through Berlin's government district on Saturday to demonstrate their solidarity with refugees and sea rescuers, like Sea-Watch 3 Captain Carola Rackete, and to demand action be taken to help the migrant situation in the Mediterranean Sea. The NGO 'Sea Bridge' organised demonstrations under the motto «Emergency of Humanity'' in more than 90 cities world-wide this... Еще Saturday. Rackete was detained in Italy after refusing to comply with a ban on entering Italy's territorial waters, and docking her vessel in the port of Lampedusa on June 29, ramming a police boat in the process, after spending weeks at sea and with 40 migrants on board. She was subsequently put under house arrest but was freed by an Italian judge on Tuesday July 2, who said that she had not broken the law and that she had been carrying out her duty to protect human life.
