Thousands of people from all over the world gathered at the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Saturday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Wall.
Visiting the open-air exhibitions and attending the public concerts that took place in the city, Berliners and tourists spoke of their satisfaction at being able to participate in the celebrations.
«I was four, five years old when... Еще the Wall came down, and we actually had family in west Berlin, so I actually grew up knowing the city and how it grew to be what it is today, so that's pretty amazing,» said Timo, from the United States.
“I come from Canada — it's great to be able to move around as freely as we can do now. I think we shouldn't take that for granted,” said Ariel.
The fall of the Berlin Wall came to symbolise the end of the Cold War and the ideological divide between Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc.
