Thousands of people gathered in Stuttgart on Saturday to protest the government lockdown aimed to curb the coronavirus outbreak.
During the demonstration at the Cannstatter Wasen, organiser Michael Ballweg demanded the end to «the corona restrictions and limitations of fundamental rights.»
Another protest with activists holding anti-Nazi banners was also held nearby.
The Stuttgart police did... Еще not give an estimate on the number of participants. The demo was allowed to happen following a decision by the Federal Constitutional Court granting an emergency appeal against the ban.
«Dear Chancellor, dear President, surely have read an internal report about the Stuttgart 'freedom virus' outbreak phenomena. The virus is highly contagious and has infected several hundred people in Stuttgart within 2 weeks,» said Ballweg on stage, adding that he estimated that around 5,000 people attended this latest demonstration.
The police reported that the demonstrators mostly adhered to the social distancing rules.
Germany has reported 163,936 coronavirus cases, with 6,736 deaths related to the virus as of Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University.
