Germany: 'This is the second Balfour Declaration' — Berliners on Jerusalem recognition

Around 100 people came to a spontaneous demonstration in front of the US embassy in Berlin on Wednesday night to show their support to the Palestinian people and their anger over US President Donald Trump's statement earlier in the day. The hour-long protest was peaceful with people holding Palestinian flags and banners reading «Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine. Save Jerusalem.» «He is a... Еще mad man,» claimed Majed Al-Zeer, the Head of Palestinian Return Centre, adding, «He shouldn't be the President of the biggest country of the world. He is supposed to be out of the White House, tomorrow.» «We have to take a stand against this decision and have to show that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine», said Ali Chteiwia, Chairman for the German Youth for Palestine organisation. Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday in a live televised address from Washington D.C. and started the process of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv. The decision caused an immediate outrage and fury from Palestinians. Israel has always claimed Jerusalem as its capital while Palestinians demand that annexed East Jerusalem becomes the capital of a future Palestinian state.
